Things We've Actually Heard Brides Say (And What It Means When They Say It)

After this many weddings, we've heard it all. The same worries, the same questions, the same nervous laugh right before someone asks us something they've clearly been sitting on all morning.

So here's the translation guide: thirteen things brides actually say to us, and what's really going on underneath.

"Can you just… not tell my mom I got Botox before this?"

Say less.

We've kept way bigger secrets than that.

"Do you think my fiancé will cry?"

We can't promise it. But we've watched enough grown men absolutely lose it at first looks and ceremonies to know your odds aren't terrible. 😂

"I don't need a trial. I trust you."

Adorable. Also, we still want the trial. 😂

It's not about whether you trust us. It's where we test the plan before the day actually counts.

"Is this too much blush?"

It's not. 😂 Cameras eat color alive. What feels a little bolder in the mirror often photographs exactly the way you wanted it to.

Trust the blush.

"What if it rains?"

Then it rains. 😂

We're PNW artists. We don't build your hair and makeup assuming the weather will behave.

"My hair NEVER holds curl."

We hear this constantly.

Sometimes your hair is stubborn. Most of the time, it just hasn't met the right prep, products, tools, and technique yet.

Challenge accepted.

"I just want to look like myself, but better."

Perfect.

Honestly, this might be our favorite brief. We don't want you walking down the aisle looking like somebody else either.

You. Just wedding-day you.

"I've never worn this much makeup in my life."

Fair. You also don't get married every day. 😂

Wedding makeup has a bigger job than your Tuesday mascara. You'll still look like you. It just has to survive a hell of a lot more.

"Sorry, I'm probably being so extra about this."

It's your wedding day.

Extra is the assignment.

We'd be more concerned if you weren't at least a little extra.

"Can we start earlier? I'm a stress case in the morning."

Buffer time exists for exactly this bride.

We already planned for you before you said a word.

"My venue doesn't have great lighting."

We've worked in dark hotel rooms, barns with one usable window, and on mountaintops before the sun was even awake.

At this point, questionable lighting is basically part of the job description.

"I've never had my makeup done professionally before."

Then buckle up. 😂

There's something wildly satisfying about watching someone who was nervous about professional makeup look in the mirror and realize she still looks completely like herself.

Just... damn.

"Will my grandma be able to tell I have fake lashes on?"

Only if Grandma gets suspiciously close. 😂

The goal isn't "look at those lashes."

The goal is "damn, her eyes look good."

The Bottom Line

Underneath most of these questions is really some version of the same thing:

Am I going to be okay?

Is my hair going to hold? Is my makeup going to feel like me? Is the timeline going to work? Is the weather going to ruin everything? Am I doing too much? Not enough?

And that's kind of the whole damn reason you hire people who've done this before.

You don't need to know all the answers. We do. 🤍
